Habeas Corpus

If the Government were never wrong then we wouldn’t need rights

Since the founding of our country, the right to habeas corpus and due process have been enshrined in our Constitution. With the signing of the Military Commissions Act, that right was taken away. Produced for Alliance for Justice’s Defend Habeas campaign, this web video calls on Congress to restore habeas corpus. The video starts by showing a series of mistakes by the Bush administration, from Katrina to weapons of mass destruction to holding a 71-year-old man for four years in Guantanamo, and argues that the right to habeas corpus is in our Constitution to safeguard us from government mistakes.
