Chris Carney - PA 10
Two years ago, the greatest voter swing in the nation (from +86 R to +6 D) happened in Pennsylvania’s 10th District when Chris Carney became the first Democrat to win the seat in over four decades. This year, Republicans were gunning to take back the most conservative district in Pennsylvania, with Carney appearing on a Karl Rove PowerPoint as one of the nation’s most vulnerable Democrats. Their weapon was Chris Hackett, a successful local businessman who ran a strong “conservative values” campaign.
As this was bound to be a tough race, the early media sought to establish Carney as a Congressman who held on to his Pennsylvania values and fought hard for the people of the district, having been called “one of the most effective new members” of Congress. After a tough media battle, Congressman Carney won a hard-fought campaign for re-election by over 12 points.
